Chinese researchers have become the world's fifth
most prolific contributors to peer-reviewed scientific literature on
clock-reversing regenerative medicine even as a skeptical international
research community condemns the practice of Chinese clinics
administering unproven stem cell therapies to domestic and foreign
patients. According to a study by the Canadian-based McLaughlin-Rotman
Centre for Global Health (MRC), published this week by the UK journal Regenerative Medicine,
China's government is pouring dollars generously into regenerative
medicine (RM) research and aggressively recruiting high-caliber
scientists trained abroad in pursuit of its ambition to become a world
leader in the field. Read More

We met with Sanyo's David Cabanban Sanyo at CES
2010 and he was kind enough to speak to us about the recent
Sanyo-Panasonic alliance as well as Sanyo's new solar panel that is
translucent, allowing it to capture solar energy not only from on top of
the panel, but also from light reflected off the ground. David also
took us through the finer points of the eneloop bike
we first spied in December 2008 and we jumped aboard for a test ride.
The bike features impressive power-assisted technology that amplifies
the rider's pedaling, making cycling up hills or at speeds of up to
15mph that much easier. Read More

Nokia launches USD1 million Growth Economy Venture Challenge
By Gizmag Team
January 8, 2010
The mobile phone and not the Personal Computer,
has become the device which democratises information and communication
and liberates much of mankind from poverty. With 4.6 billion connections
from 6.8 billion people, the mobile phone now touches two thirds of
humanity, and as Nokia CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo said in his keynote at
CES today, “for the majority of the world's people, their first and only
access to the Internet will be through a mobile device, not a PC, and
this access is spreading very, very fast. In China, every month more
than 7 million people gain access to the Internet for the first time,
and mostly on mobile devices. This trend shows no signs of slowing. The
mobile device has become a necessity for upward mobility." Kallasvuo
used his platform to announce the “Nokia Growth Economy Venture
Challenge” - a USD 1 million fund to encourage developers to come up with innovative software to accelerate development in these growth markets. Read More

A clever idea that meets both your lighting and
audio requirements has won a coveted 2010 CES Innovations Award. The
Klipsch LightSpeaker unit combines an efficient LED light with a
