As Juliet was heard to remark: "What's in a name?
That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet."
Well, that’s fine for Juliet but if you can’t think of a name for
something, how do you search for it on the Web? Use Google Goggles. This
new app for Android phones lets you use pictures taken with your mobile
phone to conduct your searches. It's especially handy for things that
aren't easy to describe in words – like ones right in front of you!
There's no need to type or speak your query - all you have to do is open
the app, snap a picture, and wait for your search results. Read More
Touch Bionics launches world’s first bionic finger
By Darren Quick
December 8, 2009
The fact that the hand is such a debilitating
body part to lose has spurred researchers to develop a functional and
aesthetically pleasing bionic replacement.
While seemingly not as severe as the loss of an entire hand, the loss
of fingers can be just as much of a hindrance and represents the largest
group of arm amputees. Short of removing the remaining partial hand,
there has been no bionic option available to replace missing fingers.
Now, the same company responsible for the i-LIMB Hand has addressed this deficit with the launch of ProDigits, the world’s first powered-bionic finger. Read More

commandos who are trialling the Sealegs to assess the capability and
functionality of Sealegs amphibious craft for military purposes. Read More
Honda’s 50cc three-wheeled Gyro cargo scooter
By Gizmag Team
December 8, 2009
Our story and video
on the Nissan Langlider explained the trend toward narrow track
vehicles and the convergence of the car and motorcycle. It also covered
all of the major two-, three- and four-wheeled vehicles already at, or
soon to be at market, or so we thought. What we missed is potentially
the most important of them all - Honda’s three-wheeled Gyro, a
Japanese-only delivery scooter with two wheels at the back that tilts
just like the Xingyue. It’s fully enclosed, gets 100mpg and even in
Japan sells for less than US$3500. Read More
Take credit card payments on your iPhone with Square
By Jeff Salton
December 8, 2009
The proliferation of credit cards as a payment
method preferred by millions of consumers has led to the co-founder of
Twitter, Jack Dorsey, creating Square – a credit card reader device that
makes any mobile phone a cash register. Retailers can hook up the
credit card reader to any device with an audio input jack, including a
mobile phone. And consumers never have to worry about carrying cash
again (well, almost). Read More
In a recent issue of the journal Nature,
researchers from the University of Twente, Netherlands, explain how they
succeeded in transferring magnetically coded information directly into a

Beer connoisseurs can prepare to have their
palates tested by an out-of-this-world brew from Sapporo. The Japanese
brewer is launching the world’s first beer produced using malt made 100
percent from “space barley”. The barley in question is the fourth
generation descendant of the Haruna Nija malting barley that was
developed by the company and kept in space for five months during 2006
as part of collaborative research with the Russian Academy of Sciences
and Okayama University - who obviously have their priorities straight.

The Bugatti marque has an array of the most
exclusive, indeed totally unique brand values ever assembled. Ettore
Bugatti came from a family of famous designers, sculptors, painters and
architects. Though he chose a different path, it was Ettore who gave the
family name its global renown, producing machines that set world speed
records for planes, boats, trains and cars, the most successful racing
car in history and the most expensive automobile in history. VW
purchased the name a few years ago and created the fastest, most
powerful, most expensive Veyron,
and in so doing, the exclusive brand name was successfully resurrected.
Now Bugatti will produce a Tourbillon wristwatch by Parmigiani which
doubles as the clock on the dashboard of its latest car and hence will
be worn only by those who purchase the US$1,470,000 16C Galibier, which
will be, predictably, the fastest, most exclusive and most powerful four
door automobile available. Read More
