Kia offers 7-Year/150,000 km warranty on all cars sold in Europe
By Gizmag Team
January 10, 2010
Korean auto maker, Kia, has announced a
seven-year/150,000 km bumper-to-bumper, parts-and-labour warranty for
all vehicles sold and registered in Europe from January 1, 2010. This is
far-and-away the longest fleet-wide warranty ever offered by a car
manufacturer anywhere at any time and the move could have far reaching
consequences. Brands with big reputations are charging two, five, even
ten times as much for a car as Kia, yet they are clearly unprepared to
guarantee their quality to the same extent, and this might well be the
point the public finally understands that new price does not reflect
quality, that quality is measurable, and that reputations for quality
are distinctly at odds with reality. At very least, as the warranties
are fully transferable to subsequent owners, Kia resale values should
skyrocket. Read More

you pull all sorts of information off the Internet from its 7-inch

As eReaders such as the Kindle and the Nook
establish themselves with consumers, manufacturers are already looking
ahead to the next generation of devices. Moving beyond e-ink, tomorrow’s
eReaders will feature color displays and the ability to show video as
well. To meet the needs of the most demanding users, eReaders will also
need to feature long battery life and displays that are bright enough to
read even in direct sunlight. Qualcomm’s Mirasol displays, which will
begin shipping this year, address these needs using technology that
mimics the coloration of a butterfly’s wings. Read More
The degraded state of a worksite radio used to be
a point of pride amongst tradespeople. The grungier, basically, the
better. But one of the exhibits at CES that caught our eye might change
all that. The Sangean Fatbox FB-100 has the look of a portable generator
but, in fact, is a ridiculously rugged AM/FM radio and MP3 player that
also safely protects an iPod against water, dust and the most brutal of
treatment. Read More

FIRST
(For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), a
not-for-profit organization founded by inventor Dean Kamen to inspire
young people’s interest and participation in science and technology,
launched its nineteenth FIRST
Robotics Competition (FRC) season today with the Kickoff of a new
robotics game called “BREAKAWAY”. “FIRST is about giving kids the
opportunity to build skill sets like analytical thinking to then develop
what they may or may not use to build a robot; but they might use these
skills to become a scientist, engineer, or inventor,” said Dean Kamen,
FIRST Founder, as he explained how what students learn from FIRST is
very different from other sports. “Ten years from today, one of these
students is going to be out in the world having done something
extraordinary for a major, global problem.” FIRST sees informed
thinking, creative analysis, and Gracious Professionalism™ as the keys
to changing society. Read More
