The term gaming laptop usually brings to mind big
and heavy machines that could only charitably be referred to as
portable, and while this is still true of many systems, there are some
products out there that break that mold. The Aorus X7 and Razer Blade
Pro are two such machines. Both systems offer some capable gaming specs
in a much thinner and lighter form factor than much of the competition.
Read on as we take a closer look at the machines to see which better
treads the line between form and function. Read More
Facebook has discontinued support for its
Messenger for Windows Desktop client for Facebook Chat. The move follows
an abrupt announcement last week and will mean that Facebook no longer
offers a desktop instant messaging client of its own. Users can,
however, still use third-party applications to connect to Facebook chat
from their desktops. Gizmag takes a look at a selection of instant
messaging options that can be used to connect to Facebook Chat from the

Along with some rather unnerving, spinning pieces
of metal, our dentists are always drilling into us the importance of a
proper brushing technique. Some of us, however, would be guilty of
cutting a corner or two in our time, perhaps before rushing out the door
in the morning or after dozing off on the couch at night. Aiming to
make sure we always uphold the gold standard of oral hygiene is
Kolibree, a French start-up whose smart toothbrush is designed to track
your brushing efforts to make sure you're hitting those harder to reach
places. Read More

When you think of a beating heart, you probably
just picture it flexing in and out, sort of like a rubber ball being
squeezed by an invisible hand. In fact, though, its motion is more
similar to that of a dish rag being wrung out, with the top of the organ
twisting in a clockwise direction while the bottom contracts
counterclockwise. It's known as the left ventricular twist, and
scientists have now replicated it using artificial muscles. The research
could lead to better-functioning cardiac implants, among other things.

By Mike Hanlon
March 3, 2014
Of all the technologies to have emerged from the digital renaissance, additive manufacturing (3D printing)
has the potential to be the most disruptive. A perfect example of the
way 3DP will change the way we make things will be displayed at the
Geneva Motor Show this week when EDAG, the world’s largest independent
engineering partner to the mobility industry, displays an example of a
printed automobile. The Genesis is more a conceptual sculpture than an
automobile, but it will give you a taste of what the world's leading
manufacturers might be producing a decade or two from now. Read More
While the folks at Apple would undoubtedly love
it if filmmakers everywhere ditched their high-end video cameras for
iPhones, the fact is that the phone's tiny lens, sensor and other
features are no match for those on something like the RED Scarlet X.
It was those limiting factors, however, that made the phone an ideal
choice for the recently-completed indie psychological thriller, Uneasy Lies the Mind. It's being promoted as "The first narrative feature film to be shot entirely on the iPhone." Read More
